Pakistan, Netherlands unite against human trafficking; plan cricket collaboration

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the Netherlands have committed to bolstering cooperation in the fight against human trafficking, acknowledging the need for united efforts to address this global issue.

The pledge was made during a meeting between Netherlands Ambassador Henny de Vries and Pakistan’s Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi at the Ministry of Interior. The discussion covered a range of mutual interests, including expanding bilateral cooperation.

Minister Naqvi congratulated the Netherlands on its new government and expressed Pakistan’s eagerness to strengthen relations across various sectors. He stressed the urgent need for enhanced collaboration to combat human trafficking, pointing out that traffickers operate as a powerful network, necessitating a joint effort from multiple countries.

Naqvi highlighted that coordinated actions are crucial in the fight against human trafficking and noted that an Italian delegation would soon visit Pakistan to explore further collaboration.

The meeting also addressed the welfare of Afghan refugees, with both sides agreeing to enhance support in this area. Additionally, discussions touched upon sports, with Naqvi revealing plans to strengthen cricket ties between Pakistan and the Netherlands, aiming to share Pakistan’s cricketing expertise with the Dutch team.

The Ambassador of the Netherlands congratulated Naqvi on his recent nomination as President of the Asian Cricket Council and expressed enthusiasm for increased sports cooperation.

The meeting was attended by Federal Secretary Interior Khurram Ali Agha and Additional Secretary Interior Rifat Mukhtar Raja.
