A case has been registered against a female driver involved in a fatal accident near Karsaz, Karachi, on Monday, which resulted in the deaths of at least two individuals and left five others injured.
Following the incident, police and Rangers apprehended the driver, identified as Natasha, and brought her to the police station. Her jeep was also impounded by the authorities.
The accident occurred near the Pakistan Maritime Museum, where Natasha’s vehicle collided with multiple vehicles, leading to the deaths of a young woman and an elderly man. The victims, along with the injured, were transported to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for necessary medico-legal formalities and treatment.
The deceased were identified by police as Aamna Arif, 26, and Imran Arif, 60. One of the injured individuals was reported to be in critical condition.
Law enforcement officials disclosed that Natasha sustained a head injury in the accident, and a CT scan was conducted at JPMC to assess her condition.
Natasha, a resident of KDA Scheme-I, explained that she lost control of her vehicle while driving on the service road near Karsaz, resulting in the tragic accident. Her husband arrived at the police station after being informed of the incident.
The First Information Report (FIR) was lodged by Imtiaz Arif, the brother of the deceased, at the Bahadurabad police station. The FIR includes charges of culpable homicide and negligence against Natasha.
Imtiaz recounted that he received a phone call about his brother’s accident and upon arriving at JPMC, found his brother and niece deceased. He learned that Natasha had struck his brother’s motorcycle from behind, causing the fatal accident. Another motorcyclist, Abdul Salam, was also injured in the collision.
Imtiaz attributed the deaths of his brother and niece to Natasha’s “negligence, freewheeling, and speeding.” According to the police, since Natasha possessed a driving license, charges of culpable homicide have been applied, along with additional charges of negligence and rash driving.
In the course of the investigation, police have requested the medical history of Natasha. Blood and urine samples have been collected for a medico-legal examination, as confirmed by a police surgeon.
Natasha’s husband mentioned that she is currently on medication for mental stress.
The police are investigating the accident from multiple angles and are attempting to obtain CCTV footage of the incident for further clarification.
Rescue sources have indicated that the bodies of the father and daughter have been placed in the Edhi mortuary, with their funeral prayers scheduled to be held after Asr prayers.
