Bill relief begins: Punjab rolls out Rs14 per unit discount

LAHORE: Following the instructions from the Chief Minister of Punjab, consumers have started to benefit from a Rs 14 per unit discount on their electricity bills unit on their electricity bills, as Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) begins implementation.

This measure, initiated by Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), has been implemented with guidance from Maryam Nawaz. Initially, LESCO provided this relief in the first four batches of bills, which were updated post-issuance.

After including taxes and other charges, the Rs 14 per unit deduction will be applied, with a statement on the bills confirming that the Punjab government had covered the remaining costs.

Additionally, bill distributors have been tasked with distributing government-issued pamphlets alongside the bills and photographing the distribution process, ensuring the public is aware of these relief efforts.

This initiative is part of the government’s effort to ease the financial burden on the public, ensuring they are informed of the relief measures.

In a parallel development, the Punjab government has announced a significant update to its pension system by fully digitizing the pension rolls.

According to a recent Gazette notification about the Punjab Pension Rules, this marks a departure from traditional paper-based processes.

Now termed “E-Pension Papers,” the new digital format replaces old pension documents, and the application process, including the submission of medical certificates, has been digitalized, now known as “e-medical certificates.”

This shift is a part of the amendments to the Punjab Civil Servants Act of 1974, reflecting a broader initiative to modernize and streamline the administration of pensions, as stated by the Secretary of the Finance Department Punjab in the Gazette Notification.
