Security oversight for KP CM in Punjab sparks call for accountability

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has officially demanded that the Punjab government address a significant security oversight during KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur’s recent trip to Faisalabad.

In a formal communication, the principal secretary to Gandapur expressed concerns to his counterpart in Punjab, highlighting the absence of provided security despite prior notifications and existing threats to Gandapur’s life.

The letter stressed that, as per the guidelines in the Blue Book which dictates security protocols for VVIPs, such protection was expected but not delivered.

The KP official pointed out the discrepancy in treatment, noting that federal and Punjab government officials consistently receive security during visits to KP, a courtesy that was not extended to CM Gandapur.

The communication from KP also included a call for an investigation to pinpoint and hold accountable those responsible for the oversight, underscoring the need for equitable security measures across provincial lines.

The issue has been raised with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s office, urging immediate attention and rectification of these security protocols.
