Health Ministry’s advisory for Mpox prevention to be issued soon: Dr Mukhtar

ISLAMABAD: Coordinator to the Prime Minister on National Health Services, Regulations, and Coordination, Dr. Malik Mukhtar Ahmed has said that the Ministry of Health Services has chalked out a complete action plan for prevention of Mpox (monkeypox) and the advisory will be issued soon.

Talking to private news channel here on Monday, he said that advisory will be issued with the support and coordination of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) and the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

Dr Malik Mukhtar Ahmed said that through these ministries, the overseas Pakistanis and pilgrims will be informed about the complete guidelines of this virus.

There was no evidence of local transmission of Mpox, he said adding that the Ministry of Health had a complete tracking arrangement on airports for this deadly virus.

The PM’s Coordinator on National Health said that during last 20 days, approximately 10 thousand passengers have been screened by Border Health Services at various entry points of which 14 suspects of the Mpox virus have been identified.

He said that nine of these suspects travelled from Gulf countries, while the rest came from other countries. Out of all these suspected travellers, four cases have tested positive, and treatment is underway, he added.

Dr Malik Mukhtar said that the Ministry of Health was diligently taking measures to limit the spread of this virus.
