World history has been a witness to the rise and fall of many civilisations and nations. The Muslims rose to intellectual prominence during the 8th century, and the period up to the 13th century is rightly regarded as the golden age of Islam. However, with the changing tide, the decline started, with philosophical thinking giving way to mysticism, which caused irreparable damage to scientific thought. The unfortunate trend is yet to be reversed.
