PHC seeks NAB response in assets case against CM Gandapur

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court has directed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to submit its response regarding the assets beyond means case against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, Ali Amin Gandapur.

During the hearing, the petitioner’s lawyer argued that NAB had issued a notice to Gandapur on November 3, 2023, without specifying any charges, merely requesting details of his assets. A second notice, sent on November 24, was alleged to have been issued with malice, failing to comply with NAB’s legal requirement to clearly outline the charges and requested information.

The lawyer further explained that at the time, Gandapur was a federal minister, and under NAB laws, witnesses should have been presented in court. The petitioner has requested the court to declare both notices illegal and halt all further proceedings, noting that Gandapur’s family members had also been served notices.

Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court inquired about the impact of the recent Supreme Court ruling on assets beyond means cases and directed NAB to review the case accordingly. Earlier this year, Gandapur was summoned by the Election Commission of Pakistan for failing to declare his financial assets.
