Karachi Police rescue retired major abducted for Rs200m ransom

KARACHI: The Karachi police on Wednesday claimed to have secured the release of a retired Army Major from kidnappers in a joint operation by the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) and the Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC).

The joint operation was carried out in Karachi’s Nazimabad area on Wednesday.

According to the police, Major (r) Ahmed Waseem was kidnapped for ransom from Khayaban-e-Sehar in Karachi’s Gizri area on Sept 28.

The police claimed that the abductors had demanded Rs200 million as ransom in cash and gold bars from the family for his release.

Following the registration of a case, the AVCC in collaboration with other agencies launched a coordinated operation, leading to the successful recovery of retired Major Ahmed Waseem.

The police managed to arrest Noorul Ain Qazi, the main suspect behind the abduction.

The authorities are now investigating the criminal record of the arrested suspect, and further investigations are underway.
