IHC issues notices to interior secretary, jail superintendent over lawyers’ denied access to Imran Khan in jail

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued notices to the Interior Secretary and the Superintendent of Adiala Jail for allegedly denying lawyers access to former Prime Minister Imran Khan in jail.

Justice Saman Rifat Imtiaz presided over the hearing on Imran Khan’s contempt of court petition and instructed the lawyer to consider other legal aspects.

During the proceedings, Justice Saman remarked that there was no court order violation in this case.

She pointed out that a two-member bench of the High Court had previously directed the creation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for such situations. Justice Saman further stated that any contempt of court petition should be submitted to that specific bench if a violation has occurred.

Expressing reservations, Justice Saman added, “I issue a notice, but I am not satisfied with the grounds for contempt of court in this case.” She then adjourned the hearing after issuing the notice to the Interior Secretary and the Superintendent of Adiala Jail.

The petition was filed by Intizar Panjotha Advocate, who named the Interior Secretary and Superintendent Adiala Jail as parties to the case.
