ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has assured Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan that he will be granted permission to meet former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is currently jailed.
According to media reports, Naqvi reached out to Barrister Gohar late at night, informing him that an individual meeting with Imran Khan would be allowed. Gohar had also requested a meeting between Khan and his personal doctor.
This assurance follows PTI’s announcement of “massive” protests at Islamabad’s D-Chowk on October 15 if access to their leader is not granted. Speaking on a private TV channel, PTI Central Secretary Information Sheikh Waqas Akram stated that the protests could be avoided if Imran Khan is permitted to meet his family and legal team.
Akram highlighted that for the past five to six weeks, all meetings with the former prime minister have been banned, raising concerns about his treatment in jail. He emphasized that PTI’s protests are not directed at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit but are focused on securing access to their party leader.
The PTI has also accused the government of “harassing” the families of PTI MNAs to secure support for upcoming constitutional amendments. Imran Khan, the founder of PTI, remains incarcerated at Adiala Jail, where visits from family, lawyers, and party leaders have been prohibited.
