Ban on meetings with Adiala Jail inmates extended for indefinite time period

LAHORE: The Punjab government has further extended the ban on meetings with prisoners at Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi until further orders.

The ban which was extended due to security concerns, would apply to meetings with all prisoners; political and those serving prison terms for different offences.

Initially, the provincial government had banned the meetings between October 4 and October 18.

On October 18, however, the ban was extended by another two days, dashing the hopes of over 8, 000 prisoners that they would be able to see their loved ones as usual.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, held in Islamabad, also led authorities to implement heightened security measures in the twin cities, including the Adiala Jail.
