PESHAWAR: PTI leader Barrister Saif raised concerns on Tuesday over the legality of the recently passed 26th constitutional amendment, noting that it was approved without representation from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) in the Senate.
He described this exclusion as a significant question mark on the legality of the entire process.
In his statement, Barrister Saif labeled the situation as a “constitutional riddle” that even the newly established constitutional bench, created after the amendment’s passage, would be unable to resolve. He condemned the amendment and said that the KP government would take legal action against it.
Saif further criticized the amendment for allowing the executive and legislature to interfere in the judiciary’s functioning. He expressed concern that with the prime minister, a political figure, appointing the Chief Justice, the impartiality of the judiciary would be compromised.
“Courts will serve political interests, not the people,” he remarked, calling it an act of “treason” against the Constitution.
He also warned that PTI is fully aware of which party members supported the amendment, and promised that both the party and the public would hold these MPs accountable. “We will make an example of them,” Saif declared.
