CJP Qazi Faez Isa prepares for retirement

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Qazi Faez Isa began his chamber work on Tuesday, ahead of his retirement scheduled for Friday, October 25.

Justice Isa, who took office as the 29th CJP on September 17 last year, following the retirement of Umar Ata Bandial, is focusing on writing judgments during his final days in office.

The bench room of Justice Mansoor Ali Shah has reportedly moved to court number 1, indicating preparations for the upcoming transition in leadership.

A 12-member Parliamentary Committee is set to meet today to discuss the potential successors for the CJP role, with three senior judges—Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Munib Akhtar, and Justice Yahya Afridi—being considered.

The committee, comprising members from both government and opposition, includes notable political figures such as Senator Azam Nazir Tarar, Khawaja Asif, Ahsan Iqbal, and Shaista Pervaiz, along with legal experts like Barrister Ali Zafar and Barrister Gohar.

The Special Parliamentary Committee has been tasked with overseeing the appointment process for the next Chief Justice of Pakistan, a decision critical to the judiciary’s future leadership.
