PESHAWAR: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has launched a life insurance scheme aimed at providing financial security for families across the province, Information Adviser to the KP government Barrister Saif announced on Sunday.
The newly approved program builds on the province’s universal health coverage, focusing on financial support for vulnerable families facing the loss of a breadwinner.
The welfare scheme offers financial assistance of Rs. 0.5 million to families when a member over 60 years of age passes away, and Rs. 1 million in case of a deceased family member below 60. “The death of a breadwinner plunges an entire family into crisis,” Saif said, emphasizing that this initiative is designed to support low-income households, with nearly 49% of KP’s population living below the poverty line.
The KP government is also evaluating the feasibility of establishing a provincial insurance company to enhance the scheme’s sustainability. Barrister Saif described the life insurance scheme as “a major milestone” toward establishing a welfare state in KP, aimed at offering security and support to those most in need.
