Barbara Pierce Bush, daughter of former President George W. Bush, broke her silence on the 2024 election by campaigning in Pennsylvania for Vice President Kamala Harris. With only days until Election Day, Bush, 42, shared her support for Harris in a statement to PEOPLE, saying, “I’m hopeful they’ll move our country forward and protect women’s rights.”
Barbara, who identifies as politically independent, has a history of championing women’s rights. In 2017, she spoke at a Planned Parenthood fundraiser, emphasizing her commitment to women’s health, saying, “When women are healthy, their families and children are healthier, too.”
While her parents, George and Laura Bush, have remained quiet about the 2024 race, Barbara joins other Republican legacies, including Dick Cheney and his daughter, Liz Cheney, and Susan Ford Bales, daughter of former President Gerald Ford, who have endorsed Harris.
An accomplished nonprofit leader, Barbara co-founded Global Health Corps in 2009, advocating for new generations of leaders in global health. She and her twin sister, Today host Jenna Bush Hager, co-wrote a memoir in 2017. Jenna recently credited her sister with inspiring her to take bold steps in her career, saying, “She makes me feel brave and empowered.”
