NEW YORK: Munir Akram, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, on Sunday commended the professionalism and dedication of Pakistani police personnel serving in UN peacekeeping missions.
Speaking at a ceremony in Islamabad on UN Police Day, Akram noted the invaluable role of Pakistani forces under the UN banner.
Akram emphasized that the legacy of UN peacekeeping is incomplete without acknowledging the critical contributions made by UN police, particularly those from Pakistan. Highlighting Pakistan’s substantial involvement, he shared that the country has deployed 230,000 troops across 46 peacekeeping missions over the years.
In his address, Akram also celebrated Pakistani Police Officer Shahzadi Gulfam, who became the first-ever recipient of the International Female Police Peacekeeper Award in 2011, marking a proud moment for Pakistan in the field of global peace efforts.
He assured that Pakistan remains committed to strengthening the UN’s peacekeeping capabilities. Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, also praised Pakistan’s role in promoting global peace, underscoring the need to enhance police capabilities to address modern challenges.
