Dwayne Johnson Praises Chris Evans’ Humor and Their On-Screen Chemistry in Red One

Dwayne Johnson shared that his Red One co-star Chris Evans had him laughing repeatedly on set, thanks to Evans’ comedic timing and talent. Speaking with PEOPLE at the film’s world premiere in Berlin on Nov. 3, Johnson, 52, admitted that he struggled to stay serious during the funny moments, jokingly attributing his attempts at a straight face to being a “pro” but confessing he frequently “ruins takes” with laughter.

ohnson, who stars as Callum Drift in the Christmas action-comedy, praised Evans, 43, for being both “very funny” and “very talented.” He also mentioned that both he and Evans sensed they would have strong on-screen chemistry, which they certainly did. Red One, directed by Jake Kasdan, follows Johnson’s E.L.F. Task Force Commander joining forces with Evans’ character, the world’s most infamous bounty hunter, to save Christmas after Santa (J.K. Simmons) is kidnapped.

The film, based on a story by Hiram Garcia, features a star-studded cast that includes Lucy Liu, Bonnie Hunt, and Kiernan Shipka, along with a script by Fast & Furious writer Chris Morgan. Johnson expressed his excitement about making a Christmas film, sharing that he loved the material and wanted to create a festive movie that would resonate with audiences.

Red One releases in theaters on Nov. 15, with Johnson hopeful that it will bring holiday cheer without falling into the pitfalls of subpar holiday movies.
