Coldplay’s Chris Martin had a brief mishap during the band’s Melbourne concert when he unexpectedly fell into a hole on stage. Video footage shared on social media captured the surprising moment at Marvel Stadium on Sunday, where Martin was engaging the crowd between songs before suddenly disappearing from view.
Martin’s fall was cushioned by someone positioned beneath the stage, allowing him to recover quickly and emerge unhurt. “That’s uh, not planned. Thank you for catching me, so much. Thank you, guys,” he joked with the audience, adding, “Holy sh*t, that was nearly a YouTube moment.”
The frontman continued with the performance, which was Coldplay’s fourth and final show in Melbourne for their Music of the Spheres world tour. This concert series in the city also faced another challenge, with bassist Guy Berryman absent from the first show due to a sudden illness. “Tonight was the first time in our band’s history that we’ve played a show without all four members onstage,” the band shared on Instagram, thanking fans for their support.
Following their Melbourne dates, Coldplay is set to perform four shows in Sydney before heading to Auckland, New Zealand. The tour will conclude with 10 shows at London’s Wembley Stadium, beginning August 22, 2025.
Interestingly, Martin’s stumble follows a similar incident with Olivia Rodrigo, who recently fell into a hole on stage at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena, catching herself just in time.
