Larkana, the fourth most populated city of Sindh province, is marred by dust pollution. In fact, the problem has assumed dangerous proportions, threatening the health and well-being of the people of this well-known city. Cough, flu and fever are among common ailments in Larkana. A lot of little children – who are exposed to the dust on their way to school and back – are found coughing. A number of citizens – students, teachers, office-goers and other workers, who have had to step out for work or anything else – are contracting flu just because of the dust spread all over.
I request the authorities concerned to pay an urgent and serious attention to the reasons behind the growing dust pollution in Larkana that is causing grave problems for the health of the citizens. The city needs proper and regular cleaning, even washing at places. There should be a complete ban on vehicles collecting mud from the canals, as these overloaded vehicles are a source of spreading mud wherever they pass through. There is no check on such vehicles. Relevant authorities are expected to swing into action without any further delay.
