Angelina Jolie, 49, feels deeply grateful for her role as opera legend Maria Callas in Pablo Larraín’s biopic Maria, saying the Oscars buzz is “very nice,” but the experience alone is reward enough. Reflecting on her time portraying Callas, Jolie told Best UK magazine that while award recognition would be an honor, her real joy came from working with an “extraordinary team” and embodying a woman she respects.
Jolie, who previously won an Academy Award for Girl, Interrupted and was last nominated for Changeling in 2008, described the transformative experience of learning opera as a form of unexpected “therapy.” Speaking to WSJ. Magazine, she shared that her opera training involved months of preparation, including Italian and vocal lessons, which helped her connect emotionally and physically with the role. Despite intensive preparation, Jolie admitted feeling nervous on the day of filming, yet credits the project with helping her unlock parts of herself she had been holding back.
