Sh Rashid acquitted in ‘derogatory remarks’ against Zardari case

ISLAMABAD: A District and Session Court in the federal capital on Friday acquitted former interior minister and Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid in the case defamatory remarks against President Asif Ali Zardari case.

Last year, the Aabpara Police had booked Sh Rashid for making derogatory remarks against Asif Ali Zardari.

AML chief Sh Rashid appeared before the court on Friday along with his lawyers Masroof Khan and Sardar Shehbaz Raza.

During proceedings, Judicial Magistrate Yasir Mahmood pronounced the reserved verdict, acquitting Sheikh Rashid of the charges. The AML chief was booked under three sections — 120B (criminal conspiracy), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups), and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief).

The FIR, registered on the complainant of PPP divisional president, stated that the AML chief tried to badmouth President Zardari, causing a “permanent danger” to the PPP co-chairman and his family.

“With the provocative allegations, Rashid wants to cause a fight between the PTI and the PPP to disrupt the country’s peace,” the FIR added.
