PAA to repurpose defunct MD-83 aircraft for training in Hyderabad

KARACHI: The Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA) is making strides in repurposing defunct aircraft at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport for training purposes.

In this regard, the PAA is set to transport a second defunct plane, an MD-83, to Hyderabad on Monday night. Weighing 60 tons, the aircraft will be moved in two sections using German technology-equipped trailers, taking the National Highway and Gharo-Thatta route. The relevant authorities have issued a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) for the transfer.

This move follows the successful relocation of another aircraft via the Super Highway to the Aviation Training Institute in Hyderabad.

Project Director Munir Alam confirmed that all necessary arrangements have been made for the transfer, as part of PAA’s efforts to optimize resources and enhance training facilities for aviation professionals.
