Saghar urges int’l bodies to intervene over worsening health of jailed Hurriyat leaders

ISLAMABAD: Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter, on Sunday expressed concern over the deteriorating health of illegally detained Hurriyat leaders, urging for their immediate medical attention and safe release.

In a statement issued in Islamabad, Saghar highlighted that these leaders, including Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Massrat Aalam Butt, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Aasiya Andrabi, Mushtaq-ul-Islam, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Advocate Mian Abdul Qayoom, and Dr. Qasim Fakhtoo, have dedicated their lives to the Kashmir cause and the better political future of the oppressed people in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

He stated that despite their tireless efforts for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute, these leaders have faced prolonged imprisonment, spending significant portions of their lives in jails, police stations, and interrogation centers.

Saghar further condemned the Indian authorities for subjecting the leaders to harassment and baseless charge-sheets, instead of providing them with the necessary medical care, particularly in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail, Kot Bhalwal Jail, and other facilities.

He reiterated that the Indian government’s brutal tactics will not succeed in suppressing the ongoing freedom movement in Kashmir, and the struggle for a plebiscite will continue until it achieves full success.

The APHC-AJK leader called on the United Nations and global human rights organizations to intervene and ensure the immediate and safe release of the detained leaders, as well as their urgent medical treatment.
