King Charles and Queen Camilla have shared the heartbreaking news of the death of Beth, the Queen’s much-loved Jack Russell terrier. In a poignant social media post on Monday, the palace described Beth as a source of joy, whether during walks, official duties, or quiet moments by the fire.
The announcement included touching photos of Beth, such as her walking with the Queen in the Highlands and sharing a playful moment with the late Paul O’Grady. Another image captured the pup affectionately nuzzling the King, while a video showed Beth assisting Camilla during a public engagement in 2020 at the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home Old Windsor Centre.
Beth, who had an untreatable tumor, was put down over the weekend. The Queen adopted both Beth and her other Jack Russell, Bluebell, from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. The two dogs became beloved royal companions, even featuring in a portrait with Charles and Camilla for their 15th wedding anniversary in 2020.
Messages of condolence poured in from royal fans. One wrote, “So sorry for your loss, Your Majesty,” while another added, “A loss of a pet is so hard. Sending love and good feelings.” Beth’s passing echoes the royal family’s deep bond with their pets, with Queen Elizabeth famously known for her Corgis and the Prince and Princess of Wales currently caring for their spaniel, Orla.
Diane James, Head of Pet Loss Support at Blue Cross, also expressed sympathy, noting the added difficulty of losing a pet as the holiday season approaches. She highlighted the charity’s support services available year-round for grieving pet owners.
