Marius Borg Høiby, the 27-year-old son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit, was arrested late Monday on suspicion of rape. Police detained him at 11:12 p.m. near Skaugum, the royal estate where his mother and Crown Prince Haakon reside, and he remains in custody.
Authorities confirmed the charges involve violating a criminal code regarding sexual acts with a person “unconscious or otherwise unable to resist.” The police clarified that while the case does not involve intercourse, the alleged victim was reportedly unable to give consent or resist the act.
