King Charles defied harsh weather conditions brought by Storm Bert to attend a service at St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham, Norfolk, on Sunday.
The 76-year-old monarch appeared in high spirits despite the strong winds, warmly greeting the Reverend and waving at gathered well-wishers. Dressed in a charcoal grey suit under a caramel-colored wool coat, Charles carried a classic navy umbrella to brace the stormy conditions.
Queen Camilla, 77, was absent from the outing as she continues her recovery from a chest infection. Her illness first surfaced in October upon returning from a royal tour of Australia and Samoa, and she has since scaled back public engagements.
Camilla missed this month’s Remembrance events and the Royal Variety Performance on Friday, with Buckingham Palace citing lingering post-viral symptoms. A spokesperson stated, “Doctors have advised sufficient rest, and with regret, Her Majesty has withdrawn from tonight’s Royal Variety Performance.”
King Charles represented the royal family at the event, enjoying performances by artists including Sophie Ellis-Bextor and James Bay. A highlight of the evening was Sir Elton John and David Furnish presenting a musical number from *The Devil Wears Prada*, featuring Vanessa Williams.
This marked Charles’ first attendance at the annual performance as patron of the Royal Variety Charity, a role he assumed following Queen Elizabeth II’s passing.
Charles’ commitment to public duties and Camilla’s decision to prioritize her recovery underscore the royal family’s focus on maintaining health and continuity amid a demanding schedule.
