FAISALABAD: Residents of major Pakistani cities, including Faisalabad, Lahore, and Karachi, have expressed their serious concerns over the recent hike in petroleum product prices.
In interviews with media in Islamabad, citizens voiced their resentment over the increase in petrol and diesel prices, warning that this will further fuel inflation in the country.
In Lahore, people rejected the hike in petroleum prices, stating that it would lead to a new wave of inflation, burdening the already struggling middle and lower-income groups.
In Karachi, residents criticized the increase of Rs 3.73 per litre in petrol prices and Rs 4.29 per litre in high-speed diesel (HSD), calling it unjustified and without any solid reason. Many lamented that the price hike forces the common people to spend a significant portion of their limited income on petrol.
They urged the government to immediately reverse the sudden increase in petroleum prices for the betterment of the people.
Earlier, on November 30, 2024, the federal government announced revised prices for petroleum products effective from December 1, 2024. According to the Finance Division, petrol prices were increased by Rs 3.72 per litre, bringing the price to Rs 252.10 per litre for the next fortnight.
The price of HSD surged by Rs 3.39 per litre, now set at Rs 258.43 per litre. Light Speed Diesel will cost Rs 151.73 per litre, while kerosene will be priced at Rs 164.98 per litre.
The notification states: “Ogra has adjusted consumer prices based on fluctuations in international oil prices. Accordingly, it has been decided that the prices of petroleum products for the next fortnight, starting December 1, 2024, would be slightly revised.”
