Govt pushes for enhanced coordination between NACTA, provinces

ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the National Action Plan (NAP) Coordination Committee, chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, on Tuesday called for strengthening coordination between the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) and provincial governments to more effectively combat terrorism and prevent violence across the country.

During the meeting, Naqvi highlighted the establishment of a National Fusion Center, designed to improve collaboration among security agencies and enhance their coordination efforts in the fight against terrorism.

He emphasized that NACTA would play a pivotal role in the national counterterrorism strategy, noting that reforms are being implemented to restore the authority to its original function.

A key focus of the discussions was the need to curb the online activities of banned terrorist organizations. The committee agreed to work closely with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to block the social media accounts of these groups and prevent their spread of propaganda.

The meeting also addressed the growing threat posed by illegal SIM cards. It was decided that provinces would implement a comprehensive strategy to tackle the issue, aiming to prevent misuse for terrorism and criminal activity.

Naqvi condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, pledging the federal government’s full support in enhancing the counter-terrorism capabilities of local forces.

The meeting agreed to prioritize the capacity building of the police and frontier constabulary in these provinces, providing them with the latest technology and resources to tackle the evolving threat of terrorism.

Additionally, the Interior Minister confirmed that the government is committed to strengthening law enforcement agencies nationwide, ensuring they are adequately equipped to handle the challenges posed by terrorism.

The meeting also reviewed the security arrangements for Chinese nationals working in Pakistan. Naqvi emphasized the importance of fully implementing the comprehensive security plan to safeguard Chinese citizens in the country.
