LAHORE: A public holiday has been declared on December 5 in Sheikhupura district, Punjab, to facilitate the by-election in Punjab Assembly constituency PP-139, Ferozewala.
The public holiday announcement comes in light of the by-poll scheduled for the vacant seat of PP-139, which became available following the death of Rana Afzal Hussain, the former MPA. Rana Afzal had won the seat in a previous by-election after the seat was vacated by Rana Tanveer Hussain.
The notification for the public holiday was issued by the Deputy Commissioner’s Office. According to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the by-election will take place on December 5, and the district has been granted a day off to ensure smooth electoral proceedings.
In addition, the ECP has appointed Shahid Imran Marth, the Deputy Commissioner of Sheikhupura, as the District Returning Officer. Usman Jalees, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) of Sheikhupura, will serve as the Returning Officer, while Muhammad Adeel Khan, Assistant Commissioner of Ferozewala, and Rana Bakhtiar Ahmad, Deputy District Education Officer of Ferozewala, will act as Assistant Returning Officers for the by-election.
This holiday aims to ensure a smooth and orderly conduct of the electoral process in Sheikhupura.
