Ditch domiciles

In today’s technologically advanced environment, the requirement of domicile for youngsters as a basic document to obtain admission to any professional educational institution should be scrapped altogether.

The relevant National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) record plus smart CNIC should suffice to be solid evidence for a person’s area of residence. In fact, the whole family’s data with residential address can now be easily extracted from the NADRA database.

There is no justification for continuing to take domicile as the sole requirement in such cases. People have to run from pillar to post to get hold of the domicile document when the purpose can be served by a simple database search. If, for some reason, this cannot be done, the relevant authorities should come up with a one- window solution to this domicile problem.
