Angelina Jolie has opened up about her disdain for dishonesty, just days after finalizing her divorce from Brad Pitt. In an interview with W Magazine for their Best Performances issue, the 49-year-old actress candidly shared her thoughts on “liars” without naming anyone specific.
“My pet peeve is somebody who is a liar,” Jolie said. “Somebody who feels a need to not say the truth or what they want, what they feel. People who say one thing and mean another, who aren’t completely who they are. I think a lot of people don’t say what they mean.”
The timing of Jolie’s comments has raised eyebrows, as her remarks coincide with the conclusion of an eight-year legal battle with Pitt. The couple officially finalized their divorce on December 30, ending proceedings that began with Jolie’s filing in September 2016.
Jolie’s attorney, James Simon, stated that she has been “focused on finding peace and healing for their family,” adding, “Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.”
A source close to Jolie suggested that she hopes Pitt will now “move on” and “stop attacking her,” claiming that he has used his influence to distort public narratives and shift blame onto her. “Brad has successfully used his power and privilege to cover up his conduct at his family’s expense,” the source said.
A source close to Pitt, however, pushed back against these claims, calling Jolie’s behavior over the years “one-sided attacks” and accusing her of causing “tremendous collateral damage to those in and around the family.”
While the divorce has been finalized, the two remain entangled in a separate lawsuit over Château Miraval, their jointly owned French winery. Pitt has accused Jolie of breaching their agreement when she sold her stake in the property for $67 million in 2021.
Jolie’s comments in the interview may not have been directed at Pitt specifically, but the ongoing tension between the former couple continues to draw public attention. Both have expressed hopes for a resolution that will allow them to focus on their family’s future.
