ATC grants interim bail to Shehryar Afridi in five D-Chowk protest cases

ISLAMABAD: Former federal minister Shehryar Afridi was granted interim bail on Tuesday in five separate cases related to the D-Chowk protest.

The Islamabad Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), presided over by Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain, held a hearing to review Afridi’s bail applications.

Afridi appeared in court accompanied by his legal team, consisting of lawyers Sardar Musroof and Amina Ali. During the hearing, Afridi’s counsel, Sardar Musroof, requested the court to extend Afridi’s interim bail, along with that of other co-accused, until February. Musroof argued that the extension was necessary for the ongoing proceedings.

Following the request, the ATC judge extended Afridi’s interim bail until February 15, allowing him to mark his attendance in court and leave. The case pertains to a series of protests held at D-Chowk, Islamabad, which led to legal actions against the accused, including Afridi.

The court’s decision came after reviewing the arguments presented by the defense, and Afridi is set to return to court next month for further proceedings in the five cases related to the protest.

This development marks a significant point in the ongoing legal matters surrounding the political figure, with the court’s extension of bail offering Afridi temporary relief from the ongoing legal battle.
