Beijing ready to work with Trump administration at ‘new starting point’

BEIJING: China stands ready to work with the new U.S. administration to secure greater progress in bilateral relations at a new starting point, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

Guo Jiakun made the remarks at a regular press briefing in Beijing when asked whether China would invite U.S. President Donald Trump to visit the country.

Under the strategic guidance of the presidents of the two countries and adhering to the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation, China is ready to work with the new U.S. administration to maintain communication, enhance cooperation, and properly manage and control differences, Guo added.

Trump, sworn in as the 47th president of the United States on Monday, has reportedly expressed interest in visiting China within his first 100 days in office.
