Melania Trump Chooses Bold Black-And-White Gown For Trump’s Inaugural Ball

Melania Trump made a stunning appearance at President Donald Trump’s second inaugural ball on Monday, Jan. 20, opting for a sophisticated black-and-white gown. Held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, the event marked a celebratory evening for the 47th president and his first lady.

Melania’s gown, designed by Hervé Pierre, featured a strapless white silhouette with bold geometric black trim, a subtle slit, and white heels. She completed the striking look with a statement black choker, further elevating the elegant ensemble. Pierre, who has worked closely with Melania throughout her time as first lady, also designed her inaugural gown in 2017.

For Donald Trump’s first inauguration, Melania wore a vanilla off-the-shoulder gown with a high slit and red silk belt, also created by Pierre. Earlier on the same day as the second inauguration, she debuted a navy coat and skirt by Adam Lippes, accessorized with a dramatic wide-brimmed hat—a bold departure from typical first lady attire.

Melania’s hat drew attention as it marked the first time a first lady had worn a hat to an inauguration since Hillary Clinton in 1993, who chose a blue velvet bowler. The wide-brimmed accessory also symbolized a stark contrast to her iconic powder-blue Ralph Lauren ensemble from the 2017 inauguration.

Pierre has previously spoken about his decision to collaborate with the former model, despite her polarizing role. In a 2017 interview with The New York Times, he stated, “The beauty of this country is it’s a democracy. Some people want to dress certain people, and some people don’t want to. I choose to.”

Melania’s 2017 inaugural ball gown was later donated to the Smithsonian’s First Ladies Collection, a tradition that preserves historical outfits worn by U.S. first ladies. Whether her latest ensemble will join the collection remains to be seen, but its bold design has already made a significant impression.

With her choice of attire, Melania once again demonstrated her flair for elegant yet daring fashion, solidifying her status as a modern style icon on the global stage.
