Court extends Bushra Bibi’s interim bail till Feb 7 amid ongoing cases

ISLAMABAD: Wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi on Thursday received an extension in her interim bail, with the Islamabad District Sessions Court granting relief until February 7.

The case pertains to a complaint lodged at the Ramna police station. During the hearing, Bushra Bibi’s lawyer, Ansar Kiani, requested an exemption from her appearance in court. However, the prosecutor, Chaudhry Zahid Asif, opposed the request, arguing that she had not been interrogated during her detention. He further urged the court to cancel her interim bail.

Bushra Bibi is currently facing multiple legal battles, including allegations tied to the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust corruption case. Her lawyer argued that her detention should not hinder her ability to defend herself in these cases, emphasizing that the police could interrogate her in jail if necessary.

Bushra Bibi was arrested following the Accountability Court’s verdict in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust case, which sentenced both her and Imran Khan to prison. Imran Khan was handed a 14-year jail term, while Bushra Bibi received seven years of imprisonment.

The judgment, delivered by Judge Nasir Javed Rana at Adiala Jail, included fines of Rs1 million for Imran Khan and Rs500,000 for Bushra Bibi. Additional prison terms of six and three months, respectively, were stipulated in the event of non-payment of these fines.

Bushra Bibi joined her incarcerated husband at Adiala Jail, where they await further proceedings, including a pending verdict in the Toshakhana-II case.

This extension in interim bail offers Bushra Bibi a temporary reprieve, but her ongoing legal battles, coupled with Imran Khan’s imprisonment, continue to dominate political and legal discussions in Pakistan.
