KP Forest Dept kicks off drive to plant 384,000 saplings across Malakand Division

SWAT: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Forest Department has reiterated the commitment to planting 384,000 different types of saplings in all nine-districts of Malakand Division during this year’s plantation drive.

The inauguration ceremony of the plantation drive was held at the Commissioner’s Office at Saidu Sharif in Swat district.

Commissioner Malakand Division Abid Wazir, along with Regional Police Officer Malakand Region Sher Akbar Khan, formally inaugurated the spring plantation drive by planting a deodar sapling in the lawn of the office.

Chief Conservator of Forests Malakand Asghar Khan, Divisional Forest Officers, administrative and other officials of the Forest Department were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner Malakand Division Abid Wazir said that there is a need for planting more and more trees to control climate change and changes in the region so that the future can be secured.

He appealed to government and semi-government institutions, students, and civil society to contribute their share in this tree plantation drive.

He also directed to conduct a tree plantation campaign and ensure planting of saplings in tehsil level offices, police stations, schools, hospitals and other government buildings.

Forest Department officials said on the occasion that during this year’s plantation campaign, about 384,000 different species of trees will be planted in all nine districts of Malakand division, including Swat.

“To make this campaign successful, the Forest Department will provide free saplings to government institutions and civil society,” they said.

They also appealed to the public to plant at least one sapling each to fulfill the dream of a green Pakistan.
