Punjab Police, NRTC join hands for smarter surveillance

LAHORE: Punjab Police and the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) have agreed to enhance cooperation in telecommunication development, marking a step toward modernizing law enforcement technology in the province.

Managing Director NRTC Brigadier Azmat Shabbir, along with a delegation, met Punjab Inspector General of Police Dr. Usman Anwar at the Central Police Office. The delegation included Regional GM Brigadier Zahid Maitla, General Manager PMO Colonel Farukh, GM Commercial Syed Aamir Javed, and Business Development Manager Hassan Sajjad Khan.

During the meeting, both sides discussed advancements in telecommunication and other matters of mutual interest. They formalized coordination between Punjab Police and NRTC to strengthen technological capabilities, particularly in supporting the Punjab Safe Cities Authority’s initiatives.

IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar stated that, under the directives of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, the province is transitioning to a Safe City model. He highlighted NRTC’s vital role in establishing a modern monitoring and surveillance system, ensuring enhanced public safety through cutting-edge technology.

Brigadier Azmat Shabbir commended Punjab Police for their sacrifices in combating terrorism and crime. He emphasized that Safe City projects are critical to national security and economic stability, reaffirming NRTC’s commitment to their timely completion.

Dr. Anwar further noted that Punjab Police is integrating advanced telecommunication tools, including drones and thermal imaging, to enhance operational efficiency.

The delegation toured various sections of the Central Police Office, including the Martyrs and Ghazis Wall, Museum, and Constabulary Lounge. The meeting concluded with an exchange of souvenirs between IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar and MD NRTC Brigadier Azmat Shabbir.

Punjab Safe Cities Authority MD Ahsan Younas, DIG Logistics Shariq Kamal, DIG Tele and Transport Imran Ahmer, SSP Tele Ali Zia, AIG Logistics, and AIG Operations were also present at the occasion.
