PM launches National Youth Employment Plan to boost skills and jobs

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday approved the National Youth Employment Plan, which aims to provide market-driven training programmes to empower Pakistani youth.

During a review meeting on Thursday, the prime minister approved the plan to equip young people with skills aligned with industry and market demands. The meeting outlined a four-year action plan to offer training and employment opportunities through various institutions.

The Prime Minister’s Office stated that Shehbaz Sharif will personally chair monthly review meetings to monitor the plan’s implementation. He emphasised that Pakistan’s talented youth are the country’s most valuable asset and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to empowering them through vocational training and skill development.

The prime minister also stressed the need to enhance manpower exports by ensuring international-standard training for Pakistani youth. He directed officials to maintain strong coordination with local industries and consider global workforce demands when designing training programmes.

Under the initiative, between 2.4 million and 6 million young people will receive training annually over the next four years. A Digital Youth Hub is set to launch this month, providing a dedicated platform for youth development and employment opportunities. The government will collaborate with local industries to facilitate training and employment across various sectors.

Federal Ministers Ahad Khan Cheema and Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan, Higher Education Commission Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, and other senior officials attended the meeting.

Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan described the National Youth Employment Plan as a “comprehensive and revolutionary initiative” that will offer government support at every stage, from training to employment. He stated that the plan includes extensive employment opportunities both within Pakistan and abroad, allowing young professionals to showcase their skills on a global platform.

The initiative encompasses vocational training, internships, business support, and job placements across various industries. Specialised training in technology, digital skills, and other crucial sectors will also be introduced to ensure young Pakistanis are equipped with modern expertise.

“This programme is a significant step towards economic growth and youth empowerment. The government is committed to creating equal opportunities for young talent to progress and thrive,” Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan added.
