Before their fairytale wedding in 2011, Prince William and Princess Kate briefly split during their university years, and Kate’s composed one-word response to the breakup has resurfaced.
During their two-month separation in 2007, Kate attended the launch of Young Stalin by historian Simon Sebag Montefiore, accompanied by her sister, Pippa Middleton. At the event, socialite Tara Palmer-Tomkinson attempted to press Kate about the split, prompting a calm but curt reply: “Really, it’s fine.”
The couple handled their breakup in different ways. Royal biographer Robert Jobson detailed how William spent a night partying at Mahiki nightclub in Mayfair, declaring, “I’m free!” and encouraging his friends to “drink the menu.” Meanwhile, Kate leaned on her family, traveling to Dublin for a break with her mother, Carole Middleton, to escape media attention.

Despite the brief separation, the couple reunited at a themed party hosted by Sam Waley-Cohen in June 2007. Their reconciliation became public a month later when Kate attended the Concert for Diana. Four years later, they tied the knot in a globally watched royal wedding, where William was seen telling his bride, “You look beautiful.”
Since then, their relationship has remained strong, with the Prince and Princess of Wales building a life together as senior royals and parents to three children.
