ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in the railway sector, alongside expanding broader economic ties between the two countries.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi and UAE Ambassador to Pakistan, Ahmed Al-Tahiri, in Islamabad on Monday.
Ambassador Al-Tahiri extended warm congratulations to Hanif Abbasi on his recent appointment as the Minister for Railways, expressing confidence in his leadership to enhance Pakistan Railways’ performance and efficiency. He also conveyed his deep condolences over the recent tragic incident involving the Jaffar Express in Balochistan, where terrorists attempted to hijack the train, resulting in casualties. The ambassador condemned the attack and offered sympathies to the victims and their families.
During the meeting, both sides emphasized the enduring ties of friendship and brotherhood between Pakistan and the UAE. Ambassador Al-Tahiri described the bilateral relationship as one rooted in mutual respect and trust, adding that the UAE remained committed to supporting Pakistan across multiple sectors, including transportation and infrastructure development.
Minister Hanif Abbasi underscored Pakistan Railways’ ongoing efforts to modernize and improve its services. He highlighted opportunities for foreign investment, noting that Pakistan offers a conducive environment for business partnerships. Abbasi invited UAE investors to explore collaborative ventures in Pakistan’s railway network, including freight services, passenger operations, and infrastructure upgrades.
The two dignitaries also discussed avenues to boost economic cooperation, particularly in trade and logistics. Minister Abbasi reiterated Pakistan’s desire to deepen trade relations with the UAE and welcomed initiatives that could lead to mutually beneficial outcomes for both nations.
Concluding the meeting, both parties expressed optimism about the future of Pakistan-UAE relations and agreed to continue working closely to enhance cooperation in railways and beyond.
