Federal cabinet approves 188 percent salary raise for ministers, advisers

ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet approved a salary increase of up to 188% for federal ministers, ministers of state, and advisers.

The decision was made through a circulated summary, which the ministers approved for themselves and their colleagues.

Amendments were made to the 1975 Act on ministers’ salaries and allowances. With the new bill, federal ministers will now receive Rs 519,000 per month, up from Rs 200,000, while ministers of state’s salaries will rise from Rs 180,000 to the same amount.

The salary of federal ministers has increased by 159%, while ministers of state and advisers to the Prime Minister have received hikes of up to 188%. Allowances, vehicles, and office facilities remain separate from salaries.

Initially, this summary was set for discussion in the February 4 cabinet meeting but was removed at the last moment to avoid public and media criticism.
