Bruce Willis and Emma Heming Willis have marked a deeply emotional milestone, celebrating their 16th wedding anniversary while continuing to navigate the actor’s health journey with frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
On Friday, March 21, Emma shared a heartfelt tribute to her husband on Instagram, posting a joyful throwback photo of the couple embracing. “Today marks 16 years with the love of a lifetime,” she wrote. “We’ve shared monumental highs and devastating lows, and through it all, we’ve built something timeless.”
The model and caregiver added: “I’m so deeply grateful for every chapter I’ve had with him — and all the ones we’ll continue to write, in our language of unconditional love.”
Bruce and Emma tied the knot in a private ceremony in Turks and Caicos on March 21, 2009. The couple later held a legal civil ceremony in Beverly Hills. Over the years, they’ve rarely shared wedding photos publicly, though Emma previously posted a candid image from their 13th anniversary showing her overcome with emotion.
Reflecting on their love, Bruce once told W Magazine, “I went from ‘[explicit] love’ to ‘love is truly the answer.’ She didn’t want anything from me. I don’t want to be away from Emma at all. It’s the most singular relationship I’ve ever had.”
The couple’s story began in 2005 at a gym owned by mutual trainer Gunnar Peterson. They reconnected in 2007 after Emma ended a previous engagement and quickly fell in love.
In 2019, for their 10th anniversary, Bruce and Emma renewed their vows in Turks and Caicos with all their children present — including daughters Mabel and Evelyn, and Bruce’s three daughters from his marriage to Demi Moore: Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah.
Emma has been Bruce’s primary caregiver since his frontotemporal dementia diagnosis in early 2023, which followed his earlier withdrawal from acting due to aphasia. On their 14th anniversary, she reflected on their 2019 vow renewal: “I’m so happy we did. Seize every opportunity to unite and celebrate… those are the memories you get to hold on to for a lifetime.”
As they continue their journey together, Emma’s tribute serves as a reminder of the enduring strength of their love through life’s toughest moments.
