Authorities prevent Imran Khan’s sisters, lawyers from entering Adiala Jail

RAWALPINDI: The sisters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, along with other family members, lawyers, and close associates, were stopped by authorities while attempting to visit him at Adiala Jail.

The incident took place on the designated family and legal visitation day, when PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, were expecting family members and lawyers to meet them. However, they were intercepted at Gorakhpur and Dahgal checkpoints by police officials.

Mubashir Maqsood Awan, the focal person for Bushra Bibi, along with her sister-in-law Mehr-un-Nisa and Barrister Rae Salman Kharl, arrived at Adiala Jail to meet her. Unfortunately, they were stopped by the police at the Gorakhpur checkpoint.

Likewise, PTI lawyers Chaudhry Zaheer Abbas, Usman Gul, and PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja were prevented from proceeding to the jail, being stopped at the Dahgal checkpoint.

Advocates Sameer Khosa and Tabish Farooq were also denied access at the Gorakhpur checkpoint.

In a separate incident, 11 PTI workers, including Imran Khan’s sisters, had voluntarily surrendered themselves earlier. The group, along with other PTI members, sat on the lawn of a wedding hall as part of their protest. Among those present were Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Aliya Hamza, Shafqat Awan, Niazullah Niazi, Raja Yasir Hasnain, and Hamid Khan, who joined Imran Khan’s sisters in solidarity.

In response to the reports, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari denied the claims that Imran Khan’s sisters had been arrested. She clarified that Aleema Khan, along with other family members, had used an “online car service” to travel.

According to Bukhari, the family voluntarily boarded a police van and later got off at Khawaja Service Station. The minister also dismissed the incident as a “drama” staged to garner false sympathy for PTI founder Imran Khan.
