Malaria cases are rising at an alarming rate in Sindh. According to the Sindh Health Department, over 2000 cases of malaria have been reported in just four months, between January 1 and April 16. Disturbingly, these cases also include instances of cerebral (brain) malaria, a rare but potentially fatal form of the disease.
Karachi alone has reported 201 cases, with the South District accounting for the highest share at 77 cases. This is followed by Malir with 69, West with 30, Korangi with 18, East with 5, and Central with 2 cases.
These worrying numbers are a glaring signal for the authorities to appropriately address the situation and take immediate action. By raising awareness, spraying insecticides in high-risk areas, eliminating stagnant water, and offering free and accessible malaria treatment across the province, we can overcome the crisis.
