The Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum (PMIF) is striving to develop mineral products such as gold, copper, iron ore, lead and zinc. Pakistan also holds exclusive and opulent resources. Particularly, Balochistan’s mineral wealth is a national treasure trove, making it one of the richest regions in terms of mineral resources. Yes, we can strike gold in our stones; there is just the need to explore and strive.
This past Tuesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that if governed properly, Pakistan could reap the benefits of its mineral stockpile worth trillions of dollars. However, it is essential to ensure that the people of Balochistan are provided employment opportunities linked to these resources.
Despite the region being abundant in minerals, its population remains trapped in poverty. A prominent example is ‘Reko Diq’ — one of the largest mineral investment ventures in the country. Unlocking Balochistan’s mineral potential through sustainable and inclusive practices not only can transform the province but also position Pakistan as a major player in the global mineral market.
