Eighth mpox case confirmed in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa

PESHAWAR: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Health Department has confirmed the province’s eighth case of mpox after a 31-year-old man tested positive at Peshawar Airport during screening ahead of his flight to Dubai.

The passenger had returned to Pakistan on April 16, and his samples were sent to Khyber Medical University’s Public Health Reference Laboratory, where the virus was detected.

Following the diagnosis, the patient was moved to the isolation ward at Police Services Hospital, Peshawar. Health authorities have instructed the District Health Officer in Khyber to begin immediate surveillance and contact tracing.

Officials stated that efforts are underway to monitor the situation and contain any potential spread, urging the public to remain alert and report symptoms.

In a related clarification, health officials said the mpox case involving a woman from Dogra, Khyber district, reported in March, was not the result of local transmission.
