HYDERABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a heat wave warning for several cities in Sindh, forecasting high temperatures that will persist until April 30, 2025.
The weather conditions are expected to be significantly hotter than usual, with temperatures soaring well above seasonal norms.
According to the latest advisory, districts such as Dadu, Qambar Shahdadkot, Ghotki, and Jacobabad are predicted to experience temperatures ranging from 6 to 8 degrees higher than the usual averages for this time of year. These intense heat conditions could pose serious health risks, particularly for vulnerable populations.
The heat wave will also affect other parts of the province, with Thar, Umerkot, and Mirpurkhas divisions expected to experience temperature increases of 4 to 6 degrees above the normal levels during this period.
Karachi, the coastal metropolis, will also face its own challenges as high humidity levels are expected to exacerbate the heat. Morning humidity is forecast to exceed 70 percent over the next three days, making the heat feel even more oppressive for the city’s residents.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department’s Friday update further warned of hot and dry weather in most parts of the country, with very high temperatures in the southern regions. While some relief is expected in the north, with isolated light rain and thunderstorms in parts of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, and Kashmir, the southern areas will bear the brunt of the scorching conditions.
Residents across Sindh have been advised to take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses, including staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun, and wearing light, loose clothing.
