SRINAGAR: Indian forces; personnel in their fresh act of state terrorism martyred a 43-year-old social activist in Kupwara district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian forces forcibly barged into the house of 43 year-old activist Ghulam Rasool Magray in Kandi Khas area of Kupwara district on late Saturday and shot and injured him. He succumbed to his injuries at SMHS Hospital in Srinagar.
The locals of the area said that they immediately responded to his screams and evacuated him to Associated District Hospital Government Medical College (GMC), Handwara, where, after primary treatment by doctors, he was referred to SMHS Hospital for advanced treatment but succumbed before reaching the hospital as his injuries were serious, said one of his neighbours.
The victim is survived by his mother while his other brother migrated to Muzaffarabad, AJK, a few decades ago.
Talking to media men, the mother of the victim, Hajira Begum, said at about 11:00pm on Saturday, two armed men, speaking Hindi-like Urdu, barged into their house and started hurling abuses at her son who was sleeping. The Indian armed gunmen woke him up and took him to the courtyard and fired at him. “My son was a labourer who had done nothing wrong to anyone. He was my only source of livelihood. Why was he killed?,” Hajira Begum said.
He had promised to take me to Srinagar for an eye surgery to restore my vision. I have lost sight in one eye and have only 30 percent vision in the other eye. His words gave me hope, but now he is no more, the grief-stricken mother said.
Magrayís killing has sent shockwaves across the north Kashmir district with people discussing the motive behind his killing. The area is fully surrounded by Indian army, paramilitary and police personnel.
Meanwhile, All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) spokesman Abdul Rashid Minhas in a statement in Srinagar, expressing grave concern over the killing of Kashmiri youth by Indian forces and killing in Pahalgam by unknown armed men, said that the killing had become a daily routine in the occupied territory.
The APHC deplored that the Kashmiri youth were brutally killed by Indian forces in Kupwara, Uri and Bandipora areas for supporting their birth right to self-determination but the whole world had become a silent spectator.
He said, in Kupwara, the Indian troops last night insulted and harassed the elderly woman and killed her son during the night time. He said, at present there is no such thing as law in IIOJK and Indian forces with the order of BJP Indian Home Minister Amit Shah and their installed LG Manoj Sinha in occupied territory have complete freedom to kill, arrest and demolish the residential houses of the oppressed people of Kashmir.
He added that the killing of innocent Kashmiris by Indian forces had become a new trend of daily routine in IIOJK.
Expressing deep concern over the growing Indian state terrorism and atrocities in the territory, he said that India could not weaken the sentiments and stand of Kashmiris for their just struggle for right to self-determination through oppression.
The spokesman paid rich tributes to these martyred Kashmiris and expressed solidarity with the victim families. He said that sacrifices of the Kashmiri martyrs would one day bring fruit and the people of Kashmir would definitely get freedom from the illegal occupation of India.
Earlier, Indian troops martyred three innocent Kashmiris in a fake encounter in Bandipora, and Baramulla districts.
