- CM Maryam was briefed on construction, rehab of 4,500km village roads under CMRRRP

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday approved in-principle phased construction, repair and rehabilitation projects in the major cities of the province.
“In the first phase, sewage and drainage infrastructure will be constructed in 59 major cities while rainwater storage tanks will be built in major cities for immediate drainage of rainwater. Similarly, water supply tube wells will be converted to solar energy to reduce burden of electricity bills.”
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz chaired a special meeting in which the Chief Minister Rural Road Rehabilitation Program (CMRRRP) was reviewed. On this occasion, a proposal to construct and rehabilitate 4,500 kilometers of village roads was agreed upon. She directed to provide swings and other sports facilities for the children in parks.
The Chief Minister was briefed in detail on new projects being implemented across Punjab under the Local Government and Community Development Department. Streets will be constructed and repaired as well as tuff tiles will be installed. Parks will also be developed in the cities included in the first phase.
The Chief Minister directed to ensure uniform development in the villages across Punjab. Construction and maintenance of drainage systems in the villages along with tuff tiles will be installed in the streets. Boundary walls and cleaning will be arranged in every central cemetery of the villages. Parks and playgrounds will also be built in the villages. Signboards and number marking of houses will be done in every village.
On the direction of CM Maryam Nawaz, a cleaning program using biotechnology is being started in the village drains. Planting special plants in the drains of wastewater will eliminate odour and dirt. Environmental pollution will also be eliminated due by planting special plants in the drains of wastewater. The roots of the special plant posses the ability to absorb dirt.
The Chief Minister was also given a detailed briefing on the program regarding the Union Council Office. Meeting halls, council rooms and secretary offices will be built in every union council for the convenience of the people. She said that the biggest cleanliness program in the history of Punjab is successfully underway. She urged the citizens to fulfil their national duty and play and proactive role to make the province neat and clean.
Ration card programme for laborers
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz officially launched the Maryam Nawaz Ration Card Programme during a ceremony at the Expo Center in Lahore on Tuesday.
Touted as the largest ration assistance initiative in the region’s history, the programme aims to provide essential support to over 1.25 million laborer families across the province.
Accompanied by Provincial Minister for Labour and Sports, the chief minister toured various stalls at the event and received an in-depth briefing on the program. She reaffirmed the government’s dedication to labor welfare, stating, “This program is not for those who don’t work; it is for those who toil 12 to 14 hours a day. They deserve dignity—not charity.”
Under the new scheme, eligible workers will receive a monthly subsidy of Rs3,000 via a digital ration card system. CM Maryam Nawaz also announced the construction of 1,220 new homes for laborers and reiterated her commitment to expanding welfare programs for hardworking families throughout Punjab.
In her address, the Chief Minister outlined several ongoing and upcoming social welfare initiatives since the PML-N took over the government in Punjab.
The programme, include the expansion of the low-fare Green Bus Service, with 500 additional buses to be deployed soon.
Work on first public sector cancer facility – Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital in Lahore and the inauguration of Nawaz Sharif Cardiology Hospital in June.
Maryam Nawaz emphasized her vision for an inclusive and compassionate Punjab, declaring, “No laborer’s child should go to bed hungry. My mission is to ensure the government reaches the people—not the other way around.”
