Maryam Nawaz orders action against roadside encroachments

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has ordered the implementation of by-laws to remove roadside encroachments and prioritise road projects. Chairing a meeting of the communications and works department, she reviewed the Lahore Ring Road Southern Loop project and sought a feasibility report for an expressway connecting the Layyah-Bhakkar road to the motorway.

She also discussed the Kharian-Rawalpindi Express Road project and directed the laying of uniform tuff tiles in cities and villages. The provincial secretary for communications and works briefed her on ongoing road projects across districts.

He stated that construction, expansion, and rehabilitation of 460 roads are progressing rapidly. He added that work on the Quaid-i-Azam Interchange to Wagah Border road has been completed, while construction of a drain and wall is under way.

The chief minister was informed that the Multan-Vehari two-way road project has been approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council and work on an additional carriageway is ongoing.
